The last brief for the Photography: Mastered course was given by Gary Aspen, brand and marketing consultant for Adidas. The task was to create either 3 images + one short film (15 seconds maximum), or a set of 6 - 8 images showing iconic and strong aesthetics linked to the Adidas brand. The only restriction was to use Adidas shoes, with the ideal models being either Samba or Gazelle. At first I checked if I have any Adidas shoes. And surprisingly, I had an old pair of Adidas Heritagio. Similar to Samba and Gazelle, but not quite. So I have asked around and got me a pair of Adidas Spezial, and they looked quite close to the required lines. I used this opportunity to learn about Adidas history
One more brief from my Mastered course. This one was given by 10 Magazine. The objective was to find a team and make an editorial with them. For this editorial I contacted the local leather accessories designer Jenni Ahtiainen (gTIE) and men fashion designer Marjut Uotila (Dusty). Another source for clothes was a second hand shop. And it was my first time shooting at location! All in all this was my most intense photoshoot ever, due to new location, people, and tight deadline. I have done this editorial almost 3 months ago, but only now I am able to calmly look at these images. Location - Klaus K Hotel, Helsinki; Styling - me and Jone Dobrovolskyte; Clothes - UFF Second Hand shop and fashio
Two images from my last editorial published in Sheeba magazine. The hat was a true piece of art by itself :). I really love this portrait. The whole image somehow strongly reminds me all those cool japanese mangas that I've read. Maybe it's the hat.
A week ago I had a chance to practice doing some fitness photography. Jaakko kindly agreed to model for my exercise. During this exercise I noticed again how the view point and shadow play defines our perception of the body form. Of how we see it and how we imagine what we can not see. Check the two images below: almost the same pose, but the angle and shadows are slightly different. In the first image the body looks much leaner and thinned, in the second though, the body looks more powerful due to the wider chest and waist. The first image could be of a swimmer, but the second is definitely of a body builder. Now lets discuss another problem. The below image raised the old debate of "approp
Destroying something is one of the hardest things to do for me. But sometimes it just needs to be done. Last week I've tried to turn perfectly good shirt into an old raged outfit. The ripping and tearing part actually was fun. But all those tears for sure lack randomness to look natural. Oh well, maybe next time. And some dirt would definitely ad some charm.. Yep, I need to practice... Model: Jaakko
Last Friday I have done a short photo shoot for my aspiring stylist Jone. It was an exercise for both of us. Jone made a collection of spring outfits using clothes from her wardrobe, and I tried to do a classic lookbook shoot. The description of the style and inspirations will be on Jone's blog. Model, styling, muah: Jone Dobrovolskyte; Photography: Ra Kai Photography. Here are my favorite images:
My collaboration with MUAH artist Sini continues. In January we created a winter editorial for Sheeba Magazine. Images will be published in two weeks. And for now - few pictures of "behind the scenes". Making of icicles for hair Hair almost done!
